TCS Guatemala Trip Day 1-3

Thank you for your patience as we have been here in Guatemala.  We have tried several times to connect to the internet and post the video blog, but it has been impossible to load each post due to the weak wifi.  We have been having a great time and the Lord has been using us as His instruments for His glory!  Here are a few details of our trip over the last three days:

Day 1

Our trip began at 12 midnight when we left Lynchburg and headed to Greensboro, NC airport where we had a four hour wait for our flight. We spent the next few hours having wheel chair races, going up the escalators backwards, and creating our very own Harlem Shake. It is safe to say we did not get much sleep that night. After a four hour wait for our flight, many hours above the clouds, and the longest bus ride of our life we finally arrived at the Hope of Life compound. Upon arrival we were served an authentic Guatemalan meal and children from the orphanage sang and danced for us. We got the amazing opportunity to hear testimonies of groups that had been here all week, and what God was doing through them! The team quickly afterwards headed to their rooms to get some much needed sleep for the long day ahead of them.

Day 2

At 6:00am we were up and ready to take on the challenges ahead of us. The team was split into two groups, one heading to the baby house and the orphanage and the other heading to a remote village in the mountains. The group at the orphanage spent the day playing with the kids, and painting the outside walls of the elementary school. Meanwhile the group in the mountains dug footers and poured the concrete foundation for the new church so that the village people will have a place to worship. We met back up later that evening for devotions and to talk about the ways the Lord had worked during the day. We were again reminded to be semper gumby (always flexible), and remember why we are really here.

Day 3

Today the groups  switched so that both teams had the opportunity to serve in both places. The village group headed up bright and early to pick up where the group the day before had left off. They finished pouring the concrete and started laying cinder blocks. By the end of the day they had built a wall to their chests on all sides. The other group headed to the baby house and the orphanage to spend time with the kids, and then spent the afternoon painting new sections of the orphanage. Over all a productive day!

Each day we will post a quote sharing something that touched a students heart on the duration of this trip.

"Today at the CauseLife village, inside the compound, we were walking around and we passed a house just as a little boy ran out and jumped into my arms. He was filthy from head to toe, and looked as if he had not had a bath any time soon. As he jumped into my arms his face lit up- It was so precious, I did not want to put him down. To help clean him up another team member and myself baby wiped him off before I sadly had to put him down. I will never forget that for as long as I live!"

Your fellow servants,

The TCS Guatemala Team
