Yesterday we went to the beautiful islands of Crete and Santorini. Crete has great Biblical significance, since Paul planted a church there and left his disciple Titus to continue the work. We actually got to see the church of Titus upon our arrival as we took a quick tour of the city. It has been rainy and cold for the past couple of days, so the sunshine and mild temperatures were a welcomed change! It was nice to relax and fellowship with each other as well as see the sites and taste the renowned pastries and coffee of Crete.
Upon leaving this island, we ate lunch and spent some time together in the Word and prayer. Pastor Ferrell preached to us from Romans 1-3, and walked us through the Truth that all are condemned but Jesus has provided the only way to salvation. This was helped ground us again in the Gospel in the midst of all of the false religion and mythology that we have seen throughout the tour. Pastor Ferrell pointed out that religion is man's attempt to get to God, but God has already come down to us through Jesus Christ to save us from our sins. What an amazing truth for us to meditate on as we consider how we have the privilege of taking this message to the ends of the earth!
We ended our day at the breath-taking island of Santorini. While there is no Biblical significance here, it was amazing to see this "city on a hill that could not be hid" from view. This reminded us of what Jesus said to His disciples about us being a light and a city on a hill. We took a cable car to the top and enjoyed the beautiful views and took in the gorgeous sunset.
Today we will be touring Athens again by way of the Acropolis and Mars Hill, where Paul preached to the Athenians. See you on the blog again soon!
Your fellow servant,
Pastor Stephen
